Wikipedia Worldview is an app to project Wikipedia georeferences onto a 2-dimensional plane, intended to analyse the language based distribution. It has been created by Simon Schulz in terms of a University semester-project.
A while ago Wikipedia introduced georeferences . Georeferences are a way to annotate geographic landmarks, borders, cities, ... within Wikipedia articles. There are several providers offering dumps of this data only. This site is built on raw dumps from Wikilocations . Thanks a lot!
The data is fetched from our database and the map is rendered in real-time. That allows us, with the help of nodejs and socket.io, to sum up languages and subtract them. They are displayed in a logarithmic scale, with aligned boundaries.
